Our Story
Our family's connection to this special place began long before we took ownership in 1993
Established in 1870 by Lieutenant Colonel Henry C Byrde, the estate and its iconic bungalow have witnessed countless stories unfold over the years. Believed to have been built around 1880 by John Boustead, the bungalow has passed through various hands, eventually coming under the ownership of the Sri Lanka State Plantations Corporation in 1973 during the nationalisation of estates.

In 1992, the bungalow was returned to its original owners, the Ismail family, and in 1993, our family, the Pereras, took the reins. Prior to this, we had owned a few bungalows in the Dickoya and Rozella area, and after selling them in the early 1990s, we found ourselves longing for another. This bungalow, so lovingly admired during our trips to Hatton and Dickoya, seemed destined to become ours. As we passed by it on many drives, we couldn’t help but be drawn to its charm, standing proudly by the roadside. When it became available, it felt almost like fate - and we purchased it on the spot.

In 2024, after faithfully serving as our holiday home for several decades, we embarked on an extensive renovation to breathe new life into the bungalow while preserving its timeless charm. Our goal was simple: to offer guests an experience unlike any other, one that captures the authentic spirit of a planter’s bungalow, blended with the warmth and love that only a family home can provide. We are excited to welcome you to share in our story and create new memories in this extraordinary space.
